We cordially welcome you to the Department of English, University of Malakand. It is one of those departments, which started functioning with establishment of the University of Malakand in 2001. The beginning was very humble and our assets included four students and two faculty members. We have now a diverse community of more than 200 hundred students enrolled in various degree programs. The number of faculty members is 17. One faculty member is doing Ph.D in China while two are enrolled in Malaysia. Besides, three faculty members are enrolled in Pakistani universities. The Department has been the first in the region (province of KP) to introduce 4-Year BS (Hons) degree in English, which offers research-based opportunity to specialize in the fields of English Literature and Linguistics.
Department of English offers admission in BS 4-Year and Master 2-Year programs. The curricula feature a team-taught sequence that traces the big picture of historical development of literature and linguistics. English majors also learn critical tools for analyzing literature/linguistics through broad course requirements. Students gain a contextual framework and are prepared to take the department’s wide range of electives. BS English (Language and Literature) offers courses that address issues of general, liberal education with the objective to give a comprehensive exposure to students. The courses are divided into compulsory, minor, major, electives and also courses from other disciplines. The degree requires a minimum CGPA of 2.5 along with a research project in a maximum of six academic years. MA English offers an exhaustive list of courses in literature and linguistics taught for a period of two years. Major subjects include History of English Literature, Linguistics, Poetry, Drama, Novel and English Language Teaching.
The Self Access Center is fully functional, assisting students and teachers in teaching, learning and research activities. it was established in 2011 when an MoU was signed by the university and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) on July 19. The center was established with a vision to develop it as HUB for E-learning and design online teachers' training and language learning courses / programs. It has hosted and facilitated training sessions regarding Global UGRAD and SUSI programs and several workshops.
